ABOUT WEBINAR

With the increasingly serious energy shortage and global warming, sustainable development has become an urgent requirement all over the world. Indonesia has great renewable energy potential, with a target should achieve a 23% renewable energy mix by 2025, but it is difficult to achieve this target because we need to plan all sectors well especially in the technology, for example, is the smart grid. As the only electricity offtaker in Indonesia, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has a very important role to create the best regulation for smart grid implementation and PLN has a very important role in building the enabling environment that can accelerate the development of renewable energy in Indonesia.

Considering that until 2025, PLN still needs to add 13 GW of renewable energy generators to reach the RUEN target. For this reason, private sector participation is needed to develop renewable energy projects of various scales so that targets can be met on time. To accelerate the process of developing renewable energy projects, a standard technology that meets sustain requirements is a necessity. The integration of smart grid technologies, sustainable energy resources, and low-carbon emissions in power systems is an important route to sustainable development.

However, the difficulties in dealing with intermittent power and the low utilization efficiency of the power system appeared to be obstacles. Smart grid technologies used in the power generation side can effectively improve the amount of intermittent clean energy generation in power systems, improve energy utilization; a smart grid can also promote energy saving in power grid links. We have shown that a smart grid can make a significant and comprehensive contribution to energy and environmental sustainability, achieves energy-saving and emission reduction, and mitigates environmental degradation and climate warming.
